I have
taught for 20 years in the public school system. I began my teaching
career in Maysville, Kentucky instructing High School JROTC students. After
which, taught 5th graders at Gray's Creek Elementary School in Hope Mills,
North Carolina for 4 years before departing for Nashville, Tennessee. During my
teaching career I have taught both fourth and fifth graders as well as high
school students.
I’ve
incorporated lots of cooperative learning strategies into my lessons. I felt it
was so important to get all students actively engaged in the learning process.
I strived to know what motivated my students so that I could differentiate and
meet the needs of my kids. My classroom
management style was overall structured, though my students were given ample
opportunities for assignment choices when appropriate. The main thing was that
I always strived for high time on task. I lived by the motto, "All the
children, all the time."
While
serving in the army I earned my Associates Degree in Management Studies. After retirement, I enrolled in Fayetteville State
University earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education (K8) with
a minor in history. Shortly after my arrival in Nashville, Tennessee, I earned
a M.E.D. in school administration through Trevecca Nazarene University.
In June
of 2014, I retired from the Metro Davidson Public School System. Currently, I
stay really busy with my online Teacher Pay Teacher Store creating educational
resources for teachers. I enjoy reading a good book, traveling, songwriting,
playing guitar and going for walks.
